Match report

Match reports are the views of the author, and not necessarily those of the club.

[This match will be rescheduled for another date later this season.]  Finally played at the third attempt on 26th August!

Accies won the toss and elected to field against what proved to be a strong Ayr U13 team.  The fact that the boundary was full size and that the grass was long prior to the start of the rugby season didn't seem to affect Usmaan Irfan's field placings which generally were too deep.  The Ayr lads took full advantage of this and proceeded to amass a total of 49 singles.  When in the field themselves their fielders were much tighter on the Accies' batsmen and only 12 singles were scored in their innings.  There is more to captaincy than merely sorting out batting and bowling orders.

Euan Ramsay's brief but explosive [comparatively speaking] innings put a little bit of gloss on what was a poor batting performance by the Accies' youngsters during which six ducks were recorded.  Cameron Russell went to the middle for the first ball of the second over of the innings and was still there at the finish……. but only scored 6 runs in the process!  His technique couldn't be faulted but there is such a thing as avoiding stroking the ball gently straight to a fielder.   At least he has the technique which will stand him in good stead for the future.

Well that's the season over for this age group - sadly without a single win to its credit.  Having said that the lads seemed to enjoy their season and were enthusiastic to the final ball.  Many will be moving up to the U15's next season with a huge influx taking their places from this year's U11 age group.  U15 cricket is unlike the younger age groups in which everyone is encouraged to "have a go" - in this and older age groups young cricketers begin to specialise as either batsmen, bowlers or all-rounders - something to consider over the winter period.  Good luck to you all.
